Mobility, from a PC point of view!

Let’s be honest shall we? The Apple iPad is a cool gadget; it is very good for the simple stuff that can be difficult to do on a mobile. However, it is expensive & not a real PC! So I went out looking for a tablet PC and lucky me my office had a spare one, l asked for it and took it
I was very happy in the first few hours, using the stylus on Windows Vista and navigating through the internet. Few hours later, I decided to install Windows 7, the installation was smooth and it automatically found all of my hardware and drivers.
Few days later, I was very annoyed because the device is not optimized for touch! In Internet Explorer you cannot grab the page and move it to scroll like on a mobile device. I always had to use the scroll bar which is annoying. The buttons were small for finger usage.
After few hours of search, I was able to optimize my tablet for touch. And here is what I have done.
Optimizing the size of the title bar:
This can be done easily by right clicking on the desktop > Select Personalize Display > then choose 125%. This will increase the size of your Title bar, Task bar, Start menu items and almost every object on the screen by 25% which is great for finger navigation without lowering the screen resolution.
Optimize the size of Scroll Bars:
This one also is simple, Right chide on the Desktop > Choose personalize > Click on Window Color > Advanced Appearance Settings > Click on the Scroll Bar in the photo and increase its size to something like 21. This should do. You can also from here change the size of other stuff-too depending on your need.
Optimizing Internet Explorer:
Start Internet Explorer > Right chick anywhere on the command bar and choose customize > Add or Remove Commands > Search for the “Panning Hand” in the left list and move it to the right > Click Ok > Click on the new hand icon in the Command Bar. Now you can drag the IE Page like on Windows Mobile.
Optimizing Microsoft Office:
Like Internet Explorer, you can use the “Panning Hand” in the section where you read the email. Simply, Click the hand icon right on top of the vertical Scroll Bar and you are good to go!
Enable and Customize Flicks:
Flicks are like shortcuts, moving your finger on the screen quickly in any direction (x2 Vertical, x2 Horizontal & x4 diagonal) and the beauty of it is that all shortcuts are configurable! To enable flicks , go to Control Panel Select “Small Icons” In the View by > Click “Pen and Touch” Click on “Flicks” tab and check the check box which says “Use flicks to perform common actions quickly and easily” then configure your commands as desired.
After doing all these modifications, your tablet is now finger friendly. It runs Windows 7, can do Multitasking, runs all of your favorite applications and does everything. Much better than a mobile Operating System on a tablet.
